California Writers Club
History
During
the early 1900s, famed novelist Jack London and a few of his fellow literati formed a small
group that evolved into the California Writers Club in 1909. The CWC's early members included John Muir, George Sterling,
Joaquin Miller and the state's first poet-laureate, Ina Colbrith. Due to efforts by the California Writers Club and by
decree of the governor and state legislature, the third week in October is perennially California Writers Week.
